Our wind events came up a bit from the last couple of months. We experienced a nice 38 mph gust on the 6th in the late afternoon. This gust was the strongest so far this year.

On the other hand, the month has been rather dry. With only 0.17” of rain, we are at about 50% of annual precipitation to date (5.17"). I don't think we can catch up this late in the year. With El NiƱo in effect the prediction is for a warmer and drier winter here in the Northwest. To bad for me because I just got my new Wovel today and am hoping to use at least a little bit this winter. Anyway, it sounds like a continuation of our long term drought here and in the west in general.
So, another September is past. Without a doubt, we will begin to see some cooler temperatures and likely our first freeze will occur during this October. This Saturday, Oct. 3, I plan to visit the NWS Office in Spokane for their Open House event. I'll take a few photos and post them here soon.
56 degrees is quite a spread, Bob. It seems like your climate gives you lots of variable temperatures. Sounds like transitional months in Missouri. We are just getting in to the swing of our temperature swings as stronger cold air masses advect from the NW into Missouri.
ReplyDeleteEl Nino tends to give us less than impressive snow amounts as well, so I'm not too excited about this winter. I hope we can squeeze out one or two 4"+ storms. We haven't seen that much snow for quite some time.
Look forward to the open house pics!

ReplyDeleteThe temperature spreads here are rather wild. We've been here for nearly five years and I don't think I've seen such variability. The one exception may have been South Dakota.
As I’ve mentioned before this is a “desert” like environment so the low precipitation is not unusual. One of the driest places we lived was West Texas. We were in the Chihuahuan Desert yet, we averaged one and a half times the precipitation compared to this location.
The Open House should be interesting…
